Captive Insurance

Captive Insurance Intro

Become an Owner of Your Insurance Company

Would you like an enhanced level of control of your insurance program? Prefer to have unused claims dollars returned to your business? ICI officers several group captive options for safety conscious companies from a variety of industries. Group captives are a unique alternative to traditional insurance. We invite you to contact us to learn more.

What Is a Group Captive?

A group captive is an insurance company structured to provide insurance for its member-owners, and it is controlled by the members. You and several other members own the company that provides your commercial property and casualty insurance. Therefore, you have a much greater degree of influence and control, and you benefit when the group captive is profitable, not the insurance company.

How Group Captives Work

How Group Captives Work

Group captives are backed by A-rated carriers and can be an attractive alternative to traditional insurance products. Coverages offered typically include general liability insurance, auto insurance and workers’ compensation insurance. Premiums are derived from your company’s individual claims history and can be favorable for companies with a good safety history.

Benefits of Group Captives

While traditional commercial insurance market price goes through cycles and changes that sometimes limit availability, group captives have grown to become a stable alternative. Once business owners join a group captive, they rarely return to the traditional insurance market.

  • The time‐tested model provides greater control over your insurance program.

  • Profits are returned to you as dividends along with investment income.

  • Your premiums are actuarially developed from your own losses, not industry averages.

  • The majority of your premiums will go to loss funds. Unused loss funds are returned as dividends.

  • You have greater influence over claims management.

  • Captive dividends can be distributed directly to a family trust.
